Dual-socket 1U rack server with two Xeon Silver 4110 8-core processors, 64 GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730P RAID controller and two 800 GB SATA SSDs
The Dell PowerEdge R640 packs two Intel Xeon Silver 4110 2.1GHz 8-core processors into a 1U rack chassis with redundant 750W power supplies. It ships with 64GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across four modules and a PERC H730P RAID controller with 2GB cache. Two 800GB SATA SSDs and a quad-port 1GbE/10GbE SFP+ network daughter card are included.
This configuration fits virtualisation hosts, database nodes and high-density compute clusters that need dual-socket performance in a single rack unit. The eight drive bays and 24 DIMM slots allow storage and memory expansion within the same chassis. Buyers who require more than two processors, GPU acceleration or fibre-channel connectivity should evaluate alternative platforms.
The front panel accepts up to eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives, limiting raw capacity to the number of installed bays. The PERC H730P supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode for software-defined storage. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides out-of-band management for remote deployment and monitoring.

Other versions of this model
The PowerEdge R640 occupies 1U of rack height and includes Ready Rails for mounting in standard four-post racks; allow enough depth for the chassis and cable routing at the rear.
Both CPUs are factory-installed in the dual LGA 3647 sockets; the step sometimes missed is ensuring the heat-sink retention brackets are fully latched before powering on.
The H730P uses a 2 GB battery-backed cache that will need replacement when the battery reaches end of life, and each hot-swap 750 W PSU can be swapped independently without downtime.
