Rackmount server with dual 18-core Xeon Gold 6150 CPUs, 128GB DDR4, H740P RAID controller, and eight 2.5-inch drive bays for virtualization workloads
The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount server built for virtualization, containerization and infrastructure services. Dual Intel Xeon Gold 6150 processors deliver 36 total cores at 2.70GHz each, supported by 128GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. An integrated GPU handles basic display output while the H740P RAID controller manages the eight 2.5-inch drive bays. Networking includes two 10GbE X540 ports and two 1GbE I350 ports for flexible connectivity.
This configuration fits environments that need balanced compute and memory for multi-tenant applications, virtualized infrastructure or high-performance services. The eight drive bays allow storage to be tailored to capacity or speed requirements. Buyers who need more than two processors or memory beyond the 3TB maximum should look at larger platforms. The server ships without an operating system or storage drives, so those must be sourced separately.
The single specification that decides fit is the eight 2.5-inch drive bays served by the H740P controller. Drive capacity, type and RAID layout are chosen at deployment, so the bay count sets the physical limit for internal storage. With two processors already installed and the maximum of two sockets populated, compute expansion is not possible on this chassis. Memory can scale to 3TB using DDR4 modules when workloads demand it.
