44-core Xeon Gold 6152 server

The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount server system built around two Intel Xeon Gold 6152 processors. Each CPU runs at 2.10 GHz with 24 cores, giving a total of 44 cores for multi-threaded workloads. The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 memory and includes a front bezel and rack rails for immediate deployment.

Suited for virtualisation and database hosts

This configuration targets businesses that need dense compute for virtual machines, database instances or application hosting. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays and H740P storage controller support internal storage arrays, while dual 10 GbE ports from the X550 adapter handle network traffic. Buyers who require GPU acceleration or more than two processor sockets should evaluate other platforms.

44 total cores sets the threading ceiling

The combined 44 cores across both Xeon Gold 6152 processors define the maximum number of hardware threads available to the operating system and hypervisor. This core count directly limits how many concurrent virtual machines or heavy threads can run without scheduling contention. If the workload demands more parallel threads, a server with higher core counts per socket or additional sockets is necessary.

Questions about this item

Will my existing 2.5-inch SATA drives fit the R640 8SFF 8x 2.5 bays?

Yes, the eight 2.5-inch bays accept standard 2.5 SATA SSDs and HDDs so current drives can be installed directly.

Which front-panel LEDs confirm the dual Xeon Gold 6152 CPUs and X550 network ports are active?

The power LED shows system-on state, the Ethernet LEDs indicate link and activity on the X550 ports, and the USB LED lights when a USB device is connected.

Does the shipment include the H740P storage controller, rack rails and front bezel, or must I order them separately?

The H740P controller, rack rails and front bezel are all included in the box, so no extra parts are required for a rack-ready setup.
