Rackmount server with dual Xeon Gold 6148 CPUs delivering 40 cores at 2.4 GHz, 512 GB DDR4, eight 2.5-inch drive bays, H730P controller, rails and bezel included
The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount system built for business workloads such as virtualisation, databases, file storage, backups and application hosting. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors deliver 40 cores at 2.40GHz, and 512GB of DDR4 memory supports multiple services and data-heavy applications. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays let you choose the capacity and drive type that fit your needs. The H730P storage controller, rack rails and front bezel are included for a rack-ready configuration.
Moving from an earlier rack platform or a tower workstation becomes worthwhile when workloads demand more cores, larger memory capacity and dense 2.5-inch storage in a 1U form factor. The dual Gold 6148 configuration handles heavier virtualisation clusters and database instances than single-socket or lower-core alternatives. Buyers who need GPU acceleration or more than eight drive bays should look elsewhere.
The server ships with the H730P controller, rails and bezel already fitted, so mounting in a standard rack and cabling power and network is quick. Technicians set up the BIOS, configure the controller and run diagnostics before dispatch. Drive trays are included but storage drives are not, so you must supply and install your own drives. The unit weighs 60kg, so plan for two-person lifting or a mechanical lift.

The server occupies a single rack unit of vertical space in a standard four-post rack.
The H730P must be fully pressed into its dedicated internal slot until the latch clicks; a partial seat causes the drive bays to stay offline.
The system holds 512GB DDR4 today and supports up to 3TB; add or replace modules when workload growth exceeds the current capacity.
