Dual Xeon Gold 6338 1U Server

This new DELL PowerEdge R650 is a 1U rack server system equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6338 processors running at 2.0 GHz with 32 cores each. It includes 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory and a PERC H755 RAID controller. The chassis provides ten 2.5-inch drive bays for SAS or SATA storage devices. It targets organisations deploying virtualisation, databases or dense private clouds.

Storage Interface Limits

The server uses a SATA and SAS interface for its ten internal drive bays, supporting RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 via the H755 controller with 8 GB NV cache. NVMe drives are not supported on these bays. Buyers who want more storage bays or native NVMe support in this form factor cannot meet that need with this unit.

Dual 1400 W Power Supplies

Redundant hot-swap 1400 watt platinum power supplies are installed, delivering full power redundancy for the dual 32-core processor configuration. This specification decides whether the server fits an existing rack power budget. Facilities without sufficient PDU capacity for dual 1400 W units cannot deploy this server.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 128GB configuration or plan to expand toward the 2TB maximum?

The server ships with 128GB of DDR4 3200MHz registered ECC memory installed and supports up to 2TB total capacity across 32 DIMM slots.

What does the 3.2GHz turbo frequency on the Xeon Gold 6338 deliver under sustained load?

Each of the two 32-core processors runs at a 2.0GHz base clock and can boost to 3.2GHz when thermal headroom allows, giving burst performance for latency-sensitive tasks.

How does the H755 controller with PCIe Gen4 affect drive throughput on the 10-bay backplane?

The PERC H755 with 8GB NV cache connects via PCIe Gen4 and manages the 10 SAS/SATA bays, supporting RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 for mixed SSD and HDD workloads.
