Compact 1U dual-socket server

The Dell PowerEdge R650 is a 1U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Silver 4314 processors running at 2.4 GHz with a 3.4 GHz turbo. Each CPU provides 16 cores for a total of 32 cores, targeting virtualisation, database and dense private-cloud workloads. It ships new with rails and a front bezel included.

10-bay 2.5" storage and H755 RAID

Ten 2.5-inch drive bays hold the supplied 1.92 TB SATA SSDs, connected through a Dell PERC H755 controller with 8 GB NV cache and battery backup. The controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 1400 W platinum hot-swap power supplies provide redundant power. A Broadcom 57412 dual-port 10 GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 card handles network connectivity.

1 TB DDR4 with room to 2 TB

The system arrives with 1 TB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across 32 DIMM slots, leaving headroom to the platform maximum of 2 TB. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables full remote management. Buyers who need NVMe or SAS drives, more than ten 2.5-inch bays, or memory beyond 2 TB will need a different platform.

Questions about this item

How much DDR4 memory can the R650 take before I hit the ceiling?

The system board supports up to 2 TB of DDR4 across 32 slots; this unit ships with 1 TB already installed.

What kind of heat and fan noise should I expect from the dual 1400 W supplies under full load?

Two 1400 W platinum-efficiency PSUs share the load, keeping each supply cooler and quieter than a single unit would run.

Which networking gear do I need on hand to use the 57412 card out of the box?

The OCP 3.0 card presents two 10 GbE SFP+ ports, so you will need compatible SFP+ transceivers and cables.
