1U rack server with dual 20-core Xeon Silver 4316 CPUs, 256 GB DDR4, H755 RAID controller, ten 2.5″ drive bays and dual 1400 W power supplies
The PowerEdge R650 packs two Xeon Silver 4316 processors, each with 20 cores at 2.3 GHz and a 3.4 GHz turbo, into a 1U rack chassis. With 256 GB of DDR4 ECC memory installed across eight 32 GB modules, the system targets dense virtualisation clusters, database tiers and private-cloud nodes that need high core counts and large memory capacity in minimal rack space.
Moving from a single-processor box or from CPUs with fewer than 20 cores per socket adds the second socket and 40 total threads, which pays off when workloads scale across NUMA boundaries or when licensing is socket-based. The jump is worth it when memory capacity must grow beyond a single processor’s channel limit or when the PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache can accelerate mixed read-write datasets.
The platform uses PCIe Gen4 lanes for the H755 controller and the dual-port 10 GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 card, so storage and network throughput are bounded by that generation’s lane budget. Ten 2.5-inch SAS/SATA trays share the backplane bandwidth, and the 2 TB DDR4 ceiling limits total memory expansion regardless of DIMM density.

The server is a 1U rackmount unit; the included Ready Rails are designed for standard 4-post racks and adjust to the cabinet depth at install time.
The H755 is a PCIe RAID controller that installs in a dedicated internal storage slot, leaving the rear PCIe slots free for the OCP 3.0 network card or other add-in cards.
The H755 includes an 8 GB NV cache with a battery; plan to replace the battery module when iDRAC9 reports a degraded cache-battery status, typically after several years of continuous operation.
