1U rack server with dual 32-core Xeon Gold 6338 CPUs, 128GB DDR4, ten 1.92TB SATA SSDs and PERC H745 RAID controller
The Dell PowerEdge R650xs packs two Intel Xeon Gold 6338 processors, each with 32 cores at 2.0 GHz and a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency, into a single rack unit. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz registered ECC memory across eight DIMM slots and ten 1.92 TB SATA SSDs managed by a PERC H745 RAID controller with 4 GB NV cache. Dual 10 GbE SFP+ ports and iDRAC9 Enterprise complete a platform built for virtualization, cloud infrastructure and data analytics.
Moving from a single-processor box or a chassis with fewer drive bays adds a second 32-core CPU and doubles the front-accessible 2.5-inch slots to ten. The PERC H745 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, so the jump is worthwhile when workloads need both higher thread counts and redundant local storage without expanding to a 2U form factor. Buyers who need more than 1 TB of memory or GPU acceleration should evaluate larger platforms.
Redundant hot-swap 1400 watt platinum power supplies keep the system running during a module failure, while the 1U airflow design moves heat from both CPUs and the full complement of SSDs under continuous duty. The H745 battery-backed cache protects in-flight writes during unexpected power events, and iDRAC9 Enterprise provides remote thermal monitoring and firmware updates without host OS involvement. Environments requiring liquid cooling or higher single-thread frequencies will need a different chassis.
