Purpose-built 1U density

The Dell PowerEdge R650xs is a 1U rack server configured with dual 20-core Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors and 512GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory. It targets virtualisation hosts, cloud nodes and dense analytics clusters that need maximum compute per rack unit. The server ships new with iDRAC9 Enterprise, dual 1400W platinum power supplies, rails and bezel included.

H745 RAID with 10 x 1.8TB SAS

The defining spec is the PERC H745 controller driving ten 1.8TB 10K SAS drives at 12Gb/s with 4GB NV cache and battery backup. This hardware RAID engine supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, delivering the throughput and redundancy a primary storage tier requires. No other drive count or interface is present in this build.

Dual 10GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 uplink

A Broadcom 57412 dual-port 10GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 card provides the high-speed fabric connection, freeing the remaining PCIe slots for additional accelerators or storage controllers. The 1U chassis uses redundant hot-swap power and front-access 2.5-inch bays, so service does not require rack removal. Buyers needing GPU acceleration or NVMe-only storage should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How many physical cores will the operating system see from the two Xeon Silver 4316 processors?

Each processor has 20 cores, so the OS will see 40 physical cores in total.

What is the maximum throughput the PERC H745 controller can sustain across the 10 SAS drives?

The drives run at 12Gb/s SAS, and the H745 supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 with 4GB NV cache, so aggregate throughput is limited by the 12Gb/s per-drive link and the PCIe bus feeding the controller.

How much clearance does the 1U chassis need above and below for the included rails?

The server occupies exactly one rack unit of vertical space, and the supplied rails are designed for standard 1U server mounting.
