An 8-bay 2.5-inch barebone chassis for custom rack-mount builds with LGA 3647 socket support
The Dell PowerEdge R660XS is a 1U rack server barebone with eight 2.5-inch drive bays. It arrives without a CPU, memory, expansion cards or power supply, giving integrators a blank slate for custom hardware configurations. This chassis targets system builders who want full control over component selection from the ground up.
The board uses the LGA 3647 socket, so processor choice is limited to CPUs that fit this specific interface. Memory type, speed and maximum capacity depend entirely on the processor and DIMMs selected, none of which are included. Expansion slot availability and power delivery also remain undefined until compatible parts are installed.
This barebone replaces pre-configured 1U servers when the workload demands a non-standard CPU, specific memory population or unique add-in cards. The jump is worth it when off-the-shelf models force compromises on processor SKU, storage controller or accelerator selection that a custom build can avoid.
