2U rack server with dual 6-core Xeon processors at 2.4 GHz, 256 GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730 RAID controller, and two 800 GB SATA SSDs for virtualization and database workloads
The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprise workloads such as data warehouses, e-commerce, virtual desktop infrastructure and high-performance computing nodes. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 processors, each running at 2.40 GHz with six cores and a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 256 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules and a PERC H730 1 GB storage controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.
This configuration fits IT teams consolidating virtual machines or running memory-heavy databases where the 24 DIMM slots allow growth to 1.5 TB. The quad-port network daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections out of the box, while iDRAC 8 Enterprise gives full remote management. Buyers who need more than two processors, GPU expansion slots or storage interfaces beyond SAS and SATA will not find those capabilities in this chassis.
The single specification that decides fit is the 24 memory slots paired with a 1.5 TB ceiling. If the target workload demands more than 256 GB today or a clear path beyond 1.5 TB tomorrow, this platform cannot satisfy it; otherwise the headroom supports most virtualisation and database growth plans.

Other versions of this model
Two 800 GB SATA SSDs are pre-installed in the 2.5 in bays; the remaining six bays are empty for additional drives.
The system includes 256 GB across eight 32 GB modules; twenty‑four slots exist, so extra DDR4 can be added later if workloads demand it.
The H730 supports 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA links and RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60, so the installed SATA SSDs will run at their native 6 Gb/s speed.
