A 2U rack server with dual 16-core Xeon processors at 2.1 GHz, 768 GB DDR4 memory, eight 400 GB SATA SSDs and a PERC H730 RAID controller
The PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores each. It ships with 768 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots. This configuration targets midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, virtual desktop infrastructure, databases or high-performance computing nodes.
The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays populated with 400 GB SATA SSDs connected to a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache. The controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Network connectivity comes from a quad-port daughter card offering two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ interfaces. iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables full remote management while ready rails and a front bezel simplify rack installation.
Dual 750 W platinum-efficiency hot-swap power supplies deliver redundancy without shutdown during maintenance. The 2U form factor fits standard racks while the hot-swap design allows component replacement under load. System thermals are managed within the rackmount enclosure to sustain the dual-processor configuration during sustained enterprise workloads.

Other versions of this model
The Dell PERC H730 1GB mini controller provides 12Gb/s SAS/SATA connectivity with battery-backed cache and supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 plus pass-through mode.
The chassis is a 2U rackmount unit that includes Ready Rails sliding rails and a front bezel for installation in a standard rack cabinet.
The Intel X520/I350 quad-port card installs in the dedicated NDC bay; the step often missed is connecting the SFP+ transceivers and cables before powering on the server.
