2U rack server with dual 22-core Xeon CPUs, 128 GB DDR4, H730 RAID controller and two 400 GB SSDs
The PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors running at 2.2 GHz with a 3.6 GHz turbo frequency. Each CPU delivers 22 cores, giving 44 threads total for heavily threaded applications. The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules installed in 24 available slots.
This configuration replaces single-socket servers or dual-socket systems with fewer cores when workloads demand maximum thread count within a 2U footprint. The jump is worth it for virtualisation hosts running dense VDI deployments, large database instances or HPC data nodes that can utilise all 44 threads. Buyers who need more than 1.5 TB of memory or more than two processors will need a different platform.
Included ready rails allow tool-less mounting in standard racks while redundant hot-swap 750 W power supplies and the front bezel are installed at the factory. The PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes for the two 400 GB SATA SSDs. Common issues include forgetting to configure the iDRAC8 Enterprise network settings before racking the unit and not verifying that the SAS backplane cabling matches the desired drive layout.

Other versions of this model
The server occupies 2U of rack space and ships with Ready Rails for standard rack mounting.
The PERC H730 1GB mini controller installs in the dedicated storage slot; the battery must be connected to the controller before powering on, otherwise RAID write-back cache stays disabled.
It uses DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC DIMMs across 24 slots and 2.5-inch SATA SSDs; both are standard parts available for future upgrades.
