Dual Xeon E5-2620 v3 Server

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprise workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 processors running at 2.40 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. Each CPU provides six cores for a total of twelve processing threads. The system includes 256 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules.

Suits Virtualisation and Database Nodes

This configuration suits teams consolidating virtual machines, hosting databases, or running high-performance computing jobs where strong multi-threaded throughput and fast local storage matter. The quad-port network daughter card delivers two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links for flexible fabric connectivity. Buyers needing more than 1.5 TB of RAM or more than two sockets should evaluate larger platforms.

8 × 400 GB SATA SSD Array

Eight enterprise-grade 400 GB SATA SSDs sit behind a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache and battery backup. The controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 plus pass-through mode. This all-flash array provides low-latency IOPS for mixed read-write workloads. Capacity is fixed at 3.2 TB raw unless drives are replaced.

Questions about this item

What components are included in the box and what must be purchased separately?

The server ships with two Xeon E5-2620 v3 2.4 GHz 6-core processors, 256 GB DDR4 (eight 32 GB RDIMMs), eight 400 GB SATA SSDs, a PERC H730 1 GB controller, a quad-port X520/I350 network card, iDRAC8 Enterprise, two 750 W platinum PSUs, rails and a front bezel. Additional memory modules or drives are not included.

Which memory configuration should I choose for this server?

The system has 24 DDR4 slots and currently holds 256 GB across eight slots. You can add up to 1.5 TB total using registered ECC DDR4 RDIMMs that match the installed 2133 MHz specification.

What does the 2.4 GHz base clock mean for real-world performance?

Each of the 12 cores runs at 2.4 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo boost, giving strong multi-threaded throughput for virtualization, databases and HPC workloads when paired with the 256 GB DDR4 and eight 400 GB SSDs on the H730 controller.
