A 2U rack server with a single 2.4 GHz Xeon E5-2630 v3, 48 GB DDR4, dual 1 TB SATA drives and an H730 RAID controller
Installed Memory Size 48GB
HDD 2 x 1TB
The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server equipped with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4GHz. It ships with 48GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots and includes two 1TB 7.2K SATA drives managed by a PERC H730 RAID controller supporting levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 750W redundant power supplies and a four-port 1GbE daughter card complete the baseline configuration for dense compute environments.
Redundant 750W power supplies share the load, keeping each unit in an efficient operating range during normal multi-threaded tasks. The 2U chassis directs front-to-rear airflow across the CPU and memory zones, allowing the system fans to maintain steady speeds without ramping aggressively. Acoustic output remains consistent with standard data-centre rack expectations rather than office-quiet profiles.
With all eight cores and 16 threads fully utilised, the single processor maintains its 2.4GHz base frequency while the H730 controller sustains write throughput across the configured RAID array. Memory bandwidth scales to the supported 2400MT/s DDR4 limit across populated slots. The platform supports a second processor and up to 1536GB total memory for workloads that exceed the installed 48GB capacity.

Other versions of this model
The H730 mounts in the dedicated PERC slot on the system board; the step often missed is connecting the SAS cables from the backplane to the controller before closing the chassis.
The two 750 W redundant power supplies and the cooling fans are the primary field-replaceable units that wear out first.
Memory is capped at 48 GB installed across the 24 DDR4 DIMM slots, so capacity is the first constraint under heavy sustained use.
