2U rack server with eight 300 GB 15 K SAS drives, H730 RAID controller, single Xeon E5-2630 v3 and 8 GB DDR4
Installed Memory Size 8GB
HDD 8 x 300GB
The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and eight 300 GB 15K SAS drives managed by a PERC H730 RAID controller. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management come standard for data-centre deployment.
The eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives at 6 Gbps, limiting throughput to that bus speed regardless of drive capability. The PERC H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across a maximum raw capacity of 64 TB. Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot provide expansion, but total bandwidth is constrained to the PCIe 3.0 generation.
The system board accommodates up to two processors, yet only one is installed and the listed maximum memory is 8 GB despite 24 DIMM slots being present. Buyers needing more than 8 GB must verify whether the single CPU configuration can address larger modules or if a second processor is required. The four-port 1 GbE daughter card is fitted; 10 GbE networking requires an optional NDC upgrade.

Other versions of this model
The system ships with one E5-2630 v3 eight-core CPU at 2.4 GHz; a second socket is available if you need up to 16 physical cores and 1536 GB total memory.
Eight cores at 2.4 GHz with hyper-threading give 16 threads for parallel tasks such as virtualisation or database queries.
The H730 runs at 12 Gbps, while the installed 300 GB drives operate at 6 Gbps, so the controller caps at the drive speed.
