Server purpose

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2630v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz with 64 GB of DDR4 memory. It targets organisations that need dense, redundant compute for virtualisation, database or file workloads in a standard rack cabinet.

Setup checks

Verify that your rack can accept a 2U chassis and that 750 W redundant power supplies match your PDU connectors and circuit capacity. Confirm the four onboard 1 GbE ports satisfy your network topology or plan for an optional NDC upgrade. Ensure SAS or SATA 3.5-inch drives are sourced separately because no drives or trays are included.

Build and connectivity

Dual hot-swap power supplies and eight hot-plug 3.5-inch bays allow drive or PSU replacement without downtime. The dedicated PERC H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across those bays. Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus the PERC slot give room for additional NICs, HBAs or accelerators. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band remote management for firmware updates and console access.
