2U rack server with 10-core Xeon at 2.3 GHz, 96 GB DDR4, dual 1 TB SATA drives and H730 RAID controller
Installed Memory Size 96GB
HDD 2 x 1TB
The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 processor with ten cores at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 96 GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots and includes a Dell PERC H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache. Two 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives occupy two of the eight hot-plug 2.5-inch bays, and dual 750 W redundant power supplies provide resiliency. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller handles remote management.
This configuration suits organisations running virtualisation clusters, database instances or file services that benefit from the H730 controller’s RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 support. The single-socket layout and eight 2.5-inch bays limit raw capacity and CPU throughput, so buyers who need dual-processor performance, more than 64 TB of internal storage or PCIe expansion beyond seven slots should evaluate other platforms.
Only one processor is installed, though the C610 chipset supports a second. Adding a second E5-2650 v3 would double the core count to 20 physical cores and 40 threads while keeping the same 96 GB memory ceiling unless additional DIMMs are purchased. This single-socket starting point is the key factor in sizing the server for your workload.
