A rack-mount server with 14-core Xeon E5-2680v4 at 2.4GHz, 384GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730 SAS controller and eight 3.5-inch drive bays ready for SATA storage
The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around a single Xeon E5-2680v4 processor running at 2.4GHz with 14 cores and 35MB cache. It ships with 384GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across 24 slots, leaving room to double capacity to 768GB or add a second processor. The 8-bay 3.5-inch chassis targets workloads that need dense local storage and remote management via iDRAC8 Enterprise.
The server slides into a standard rack using optional rail kits and connects through dual 495W power supplies. Storage drives are not included; the PERC H730 SAS controller manages SATA drives in any RAID layout you choose. Buyers often forget to order drive caddies or overlook the need to license iDRAC8 Enterprise features separately. Network interfaces include two 10GbE and two 1GbE ports ready for immediate uplinks.
DDR4 memory speed and maximum capacity are fixed by the processor generation installed; you cannot exceed 768GB or use newer memory types. The 8-bay 3.5-inch backplane caps raw drive count at eight, so buyers who want more storage must attach external enclosures. PCIe expansion slots follow the 12th-generation form factor, limiting future accelerator or NIC upgrades to compatible cards.
