2U rack server with single Xeon E5-2609v3 1.9GHz six-core processor, 48GB DDR4, two 300GB 15K SAS drives and H730 RAID controller
Installed Memory Size 48GB
HDD 2 x 300GB
The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processor running at 1.9GHz. It ships with 48GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots and includes a PERC H730 RAID controller with 1GB cache. Two 300GB 15K SAS drives are installed in the eight-bay hot-plug chassis, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.
Redundant 750W power supplies can be swapped without downtime while the system draws air front-to-back through managed fans. The iDRAC8 remote-management module provides out-of-band monitoring of temperatures, fan speeds and power draw. A DVD-ROM drive occupies the single media bay and the Matrox G200eR2 video adapter handles basic console output.
Only one processor is installed, so the 12 DIMM slots associated with the second socket remain unusable until a matching Xeon is added. This caps usable memory at 48GB despite the board supporting 1536GB in a dual-socket layout. Buyers who need more than 48GB of RAM or who require the full PCIe 3.0 lane count from two CPUs should plan for a second processor upgrade.

Slide each drive into an empty bay until the latch clicks; the step often missed is creating the virtual disk in the H730 RAID BIOS before the operating system installer runs.
The 15K SAS drives and the two 750 W redundant power supplies are the moving parts most likely to require replacement after extended 24/7 use.
The single six-core 1.9 GHz processor reaches its thermal ceiling before the 48 GB DDR4 memory or the H730 controller become bottlenecks.
