A 2U rack server holding twelve 3.5-inch drives, dual 22-core Xeons at 2.2 GHz and 192 GB DDR4 with a PERC H730 controller
The Dell PowerEdge R730xd 12LFF chassis holds two Xeon E5-2699v4 processors at 2.2 GHz with 22 cores each and 55 MB cache per CPU. A total of 192 GB DDR4 ECC registered memory is installed across the available slots, leaving room to scale toward the 768 GB maximum. The PERC H730 SAS controller manages up to twelve 3.5-inch SATA bays, and an Intel I350/X540 network card provides two 10 GbE and two 1 GbE ports. iDRAC8 Enterprise enables remote management.
Dual 1100 W power supplies feed both CPUs and the full memory complement during extended jobs. The 12-bay layout keeps storage controllers and drives in a single airflow path, so sustained write streams to the PERC H730 do not create localised hot spots. Firmware is updated to the latest stable release before shipment and a burn-in test verifies thermal behaviour under load. Memory operates at the rated DDR4 speed without down-clocking when all channels are populated.
The 36 x 24 x 10 inch, 40-pound unit fits standard 19-inch racks; rail kits are available on request but not included by default. Drive carriers for the twelve 3.5-inch bays must be ordered separately if not already on hand. iDRAC8 Enterprise licensing is pre-activated, yet network configuration for the dual 10 GbE ports often requires manual VLAN tagging to match existing infrastructure. Memory expansion beyond 192 GB demands DDR4 ECC registered modules of identical rank and speed to avoid training failures.

The 2U chassis uses dual 1100W power supplies and multiple system fans that ramp up under load; with 22 cores per CPU and up to 12 spinning drives, sustained operation produces noticeable airflow noise and exhaust heat typical of a dense rack server.
No 3.5" drives are installed; you must provide SATA or SAS drives for the 12-bay backplane and the PERC H730 controller, and the system requires DDR4 ECC registered modules to reach the 192GB shown.
Yes, the PERC H730 supports both SATA and SAS drives on the 12-bay 3.5" backplane, so current 2.5" or 3.5" disks with those interfaces can be used directly in the drive carriers.
