2U rack server with dual 10-core Xeon CPUs, 32 GB DDR4, H330 RAID controller and 12 hot-plug 3.5-inch drive bays
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays into a 2U rack chassis, giving 52 TB maximum raw capacity. Dual ten-core Xeon processors at 2.3 GHz provide 40 threads for parallel file serving or backup jobs. The H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 for redundancy choice. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across the 24 available DIMM slots.
Two 750 W hot-swap power supplies share the load so a single failure does not interrupt disk rebuilds or long RAID-50 initialisation. The 2U airflow path is designed for continuous spindle vibration across all twelve bays. PCIe 3.0 slots remain available for additional NICs or HBAs without restricting drive cooling. iDRAC8 remote management lets administrators monitor temperatures and power draw during multi-day parity scans.
The chassis measures 26.8 inches deep, so confirm your rack clearance accommodates that length plus cable bend radius. No drive trays or drives ship with the unit; you must supply compatible 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives and carriers. The installed memory uses DDR4 modules only; other generations will not fit. Network daughter card provides four 1 GbE ports; 10 GbE upgrades require a separate NDC module.

Other versions of this model
The 2U rack design uses redundant hot-swap 750 W power supplies and draws cool air front-to-back; expect typical data-centre noise levels and heat output for a dual-processor 2U server under sustained load.
You must provide up to twelve 3.5-inch SAS or SATA hard drives plus compatible Dell drive trays; no drives or trays are included with the server.
The system offers up to six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID-card slot, so standard PCIe 3.0 cards will install directly.
