A 2U rack server with dual Xeon E5-2609v3 CPUs, 32GB DDR4, H330 RAID controller and twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server designed for dense local storage. Dual Xeon E5-2609v3 processors deliver twelve cores at 1.9 GHz. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 memory populate the 24 DIMM slots. A PERC H330 controller manages up to twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives with RAID 0/1/5/10/50/60 support. Redundant 750 W power supplies and a DVD-ROM complete the chassis. iDRAC8 provides remote management.
This platform suits archives, backup repositories and surveillance storage where drive count matters more than single-thread speed. The six-core CPUs and capped 32 GB memory limit virtualisation density and database performance. Buyers who need more processor cores, higher clock rates or larger memory footprints should look at alternative configurations. GPU-accelerated workloads are unsupported beyond the basic Matrox G200 video output.
The chassis accepts up to twelve 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives for a raw maximum of 52 TB. No drives or trays are included so the buyer must supply compatible media. The H330 controller enables RAID 0/1/5/10/50/60 across the backplane. This bay count is the primary constraint that determines whether the server fits the intended storage design.

Other versions of this model
The server ships with 32 GB DDR4 across 24 DIMM slots; the CPUs support up to 1536 GB total, so you can expand in 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB DDR4 increments up to 2400 MT/s.
Two six-core Xeon E5-2609 v3 processors at 1.9 GHz provide 12 physical cores for parallel workloads, with the C610 chipset managing memory and I/O across the 2U rack frame.
The H330 supports SAS and SATA drives at 12 Gbps with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60, capping each 3.5-inch bay to that interface speed while allowing up to 52 TB raw capacity.
