2U rack server with dual Xeon E5-2609v3 processors, 16GB DDR4, three 300GB 15K SAS drives and a Perc H730 RAID controller supporting up to 12 hot-plug bays
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server built for storage-heavy workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processors running at 1.9 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. Three 300 GB 15 000 RPM SAS drives and a PERC H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache are installed, supporting RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and a DVD ROM complete the configuration.
This server fits environments that need up to twelve hot-plug 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives in a compact chassis, such as backup repositories, archiving or software-defined storage nodes. The installed CPUs provide twelve total cores at a modest clock speed, so compute-intensive applications will be limited. Buyers who need more than sixteen gigabytes of memory or who require drive interfaces beyond SAS and SATA should look elsewhere, as the current controller and chassis do not support those configurations.
The single specification that decides fit is the combination of the PERC H730 controller and the twelve-bay 3.5-inch SAS backplane. This pairing defines the maximum raw capacity of 52 TB, the supported RAID levels and the drive types the server can accept. If your deployment requires a different controller feature set, a 2.5-inch form factor or a drive protocol not listed here, this chassis will not meet the requirement.

Other versions of this model
The H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 across the installed 300GB 15K SAS drives and any additional hot-plug drives.
The chassis provides up to 12 hot-plug 3.5-inch bays, with trays included for the three factory-installed 300GB SAS drives.
The H730 occupies the dedicated internal RAID card slot, leaving all six PCIe 3.0 expansion slots free for other cards.
