DELL PowerEdge R730XD 2U rack server 2x Xeon E5-2609v3 1.9GHz 64GB DDR4 3x 1TB SATA H730

Purpose-built storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack system designed for capacity-focused workloads. It ships with two six-core Xeon E5-2609v3 processors at 1.9GHz and 64GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. Three 1TB 7.2K SATA drives are pre-installed in a 12-bay hot-plug chassis backed by a Perc H730 RAID controller with 1GB cache. Dual 750W redundant power supplies and a DVD-ROM complete the configuration.

Who this suits and who it does not

This server suits teams needing dense 3.5-inch drive bays with hardware RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 in a 2U form factor. The 12-bay backplane accepts SAS or SATA media, and the H730 controller supports up to 52TB of raw capacity. Buyers who need more than 12 drive bays, faster than 1GbE networking without an add-in card, or a newer processor architecture should evaluate other platforms. The installed CPU and memory are fixed at the listed specifications.

Deciding specification

The defining constraint is the 12-bay 3.5-inch hot-plug backplane paired with the H730 RAID controller. It determines how many drives you can install, which RAID levels are available, and the maximum 52TB raw capacity. If your storage plan fits within 12 SATA or SAS spindles and the supported RAID modes, this chassis matches the requirement; if you need more bays or a different controller feature set, the platform will not accommodate it.
