Dual Xeon E5-2640 v3 2.6GHz 8-core processors with 512GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730 RAID controller, 2x 800GB SSDs, quad-port 1/10GbE networking and iDRAC8 Enterprise in a 24-bay 2U rack chassis
The Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server built with two Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors. Each CPU delivers 8 cores at 2.6 GHz with a 3.4 GHz turbo frequency. The system targets midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure, databases and high-performance computing data nodes.
The 24-bay 2.5-inch drive chassis connects through a Dell PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache. The controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through at 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA speeds. Network connectivity uses an Intel X520/I350 daughter card providing two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. Remote management is handled by iDRAC 8 Enterprise.
Sixteen 32 GB DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC modules fill 16 of 24 memory slots, leaving eight slots open for expansion up to the 1.5 TB maximum. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs provide the initial boot and application storage. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies deliver redundant hot-swap power for continuous operation.

Other versions of this model
The 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis supports up to 24 drives. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs are installed; you can add additional SATA or SAS drives to the remaining bays for greater capacity or different RAID layouts.
Two Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors run at 2.6 GHz base and can turbo to 3.4 GHz, giving 16 total cores and 32 threads for virtualisation, databases or HPC tasks.
The H730 supports 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA. The installed 800 GB SSDs are SATA 6 Gb/s, so they are capped at the SATA link speed rather than the controller's maximum SAS rate.
