The Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon E5-2660 v3 processors, each running at 2.60 GHz with 10 cores. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules. The chassis provides 24 hot-swap 2.5-inch drive bays served by a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 8 Enterprise management are included.

Suited for dense storage workloads

This platform fits midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce databases, virtual desktop infrastructure or high-performance computing data nodes. The 24-bay layout and 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller support large RAID arrays up to RAID 60. Buyers who need a tower chassis, a smaller rack footprint, or fewer drive bays should consider a different form factor. The maximum processor count is two, so workloads requiring more sockets will not fit.

PERC H730 1 GB RAID controller decides drive

The storage controller determines which RAID levels are available and whether drives operate in pass-through mode. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the 24 bays. If your deployment requires a different controller feature set or an alternative drive interface, this server will not match the requirement.
