2U rack server with dual 12-core Xeon E5-2680 v3 processors, 256GB DDR4 memory and 24 SATA SSDs of 400GB each
The PowerEdge R730xd packs two Xeon E5-2680 v3 12-core processors at 2.5 GHz with 3.3 GHz turbo into a 2U rack chassis. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules and a PERC H730 1 GB controller driving 24 SATA SSDs of 400 GB each. Dual 750 W platinum supplies, iDRAC 8 Enterprise, quad-port networking and rails complete the package.
This configuration targets databases, virtual desktop infrastructure and data-node duties where capacity and redundancy across many drives matter. The 24-bay front panel and hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 support make it a dense platform for read-intensive flash arrays. Buyers who need PCIe-attached flash or a smaller drive count should evaluate other platforms.
The defining spec is the 24-drive 2.5-inch SATA 6 Gb/s backplane paired with the H730 controller. It locks the buyer into SATA SSDs or HDDs in that form factor and caps each drive at the 400 GB modules installed. If the deployment requires a different drive interface, larger individual capacities or fewer bays, this chassis will not match the requirement.

Other versions of this model
Yes — the server uses dual LGA 2011-3 sockets and already includes two 12-core Xeon E5-2680 v3 CPUs running at 2.5 GHz with 3.3 GHz turbo.
The H730 supports 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, so it can combine the 24 factory SSDs with additional SAS or SATA drives in the same arrays.
Watch for the iDRAC firmware boot message on the console, then browse to the management IP shown there; the Enterprise licence enables full remote KVM, virtual media and hardware monitoring.
