2U rack server with dual 14-core Xeon CPUs, 512GB DDR4, 24x 800GB SATA SSDs and PERC H730 RAID controller
The PowerEdge R730xd packs two Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors running at 2.4 GHz with a 3.3 GHz turbo frequency. Fourteen cores per socket deliver 28 threads for parallel tasks such as virtual desktop infrastructure, databases and data-warehouse nodes. Registered ECC DDR4 memory totals 512 GB across 16 modules, leaving eight slots open for expansion up to the platform maximum of 1.5 TB.
Twenty-four 800 GB solid-state drives sit behind a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache and battery backup, supporting RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA link keeps each drive at its native 6 Gb/s SATA rate during long sequential writes, avoiding the throttle seen on smaller arrays. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies share the load so neither unit runs near its thermal limit under continuous I/O.
The 2U chassis holds 24 hot-swap 2.5-inch bays, so capacity scales only by swapping drives for larger models of the same form factor. Network I/O tops out at two 10 Gb SFP+ ports and two 1 GbE ports on the X520/I350 daughter card, limiting east-west traffic for clustered workloads. iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides out-of-band management but does not add compute resources.

Other versions of this model
Each supply is rated at 750 watts with platinum efficiency; total draw depends on workload but the redundant pair shares the load and keeps the server running if one unit fails.
The unit ships with ready rails and a front bezel; you supply the rack, power cords and network patch cables for the quad-port 1GbE and 10Gb SFP+ daughter card.
The H730 supports mixed SATA and SAS devices at 12Gb/s; you can add legacy 6Gb SAS drives to the 24-bay backplane and configure them in any supported RAID level.
