2U rack server with 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch bays, single Xeon E5-2609v3 1.9GHz, 96GB DDR4, H730 RAID controller, dual 750W power supplies
Installed Memory Size 96GB
HDD None
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch bays into a 2U rack footprint, giving dense local capacity for databases, virtualization hosts or backup targets. A single Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processor at 1.9 GHz and 96 GB of DDR4 provide the compute base, while the Perc H730 RAID controller manages SAS or SATA drives across RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Redundant 750 W power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management keep the platform available in multi-node deployments.
No drive trays or drives ship with the unit, so confirm you have compatible 2.5-inch SAS or SATA carriers before ordering. The board offers 24 DIMM slots across two processors, yet only one CPU is installed; adding a second Xeon unlocks the remaining 12 slots and the full 1536 GB memory ceiling. Network connectivity defaults to a 4-port 1 GbE daughter card, with optional 10 GbE NDCs available if your switch fabric demands higher throughput. Ensure the rack depth accommodates the 26.8-inch chassis and that rails are sourced separately.
The H730 controller’s 1 GB cache and 12 Gbps SAS links sustain consistent write performance across large RAID sets during extended backup windows or database rebuilds. Dual 750 W supplies share load evenly, reducing thermal cycling when the array runs at high utilisation for hours. The six-core Xeon maintains a fixed 1.9 GHz clock without turbo, so compute output stays predictable under continuous multi-threaded workloads such as hypervisor hosts or software-defined storage nodes.

Other versions of this model
The server ships with one E5-2609v3 processor, 96GB DDR4 memory, H730 RAID controller, two 750W redundant power supplies, DVD drive, Matrox G200 graphics, 4 x 1GbE daughter card, iDRAC8 Express and a power cable. Drive trays, hard drives, rail kit, bezel, keyboard, mouse, video cable and an operating system are not included.
The system has 24 DIMM slots supporting DDR4 modules at 2400MT/s up to 128GB each. Installed memory is 96GB and the board maximum is 1536GB, so select additional 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB DDR4 sticks to reach your target capacity.
With 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch bays the 52TB limit is reached by filling every bay with the largest supported SAS or SATA drives. The H730 controller handles RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60, so usable space will be lower depending on the RAID level chosen.
