2U rack server with single Xeon E5-2630 v3 2.4GHz, 48GB DDR4, three 2TB SAS drives and H730 RAID controller
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server fitted with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 48 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots and a Perc H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache. Three 2 TB 7.2K SAS drives occupy three of the twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays, and dual 750 W redundant power supplies are installed. The system includes a DVD-ROM drive and a quad-port 1 GbE daughter card, with no operating system supplied.
This configuration suits organisations that need dense 3.5-inch storage in a 2U form factor, hardware RAID across mixed SAS or SATA drives, and redundant power for continuous operation. The single-socket layout and 48 GB memory ceiling limit virtualisation density, so environments requiring two processors or more than 48 GB of RAM should consider a different chassis or a dual-socket build.
The H730 controller enables RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the installed drives and any future additions, while the hot-plug bays allow drive changes without downtime. Redundant power supplies protect against a single PSU failure. iDRAC8 Express provides out-of-band management from day one, with Enterprise features and vFlash media available as upgrades. The quad 1 GbE ports handle basic network connectivity; 10 GbE options require an additional NDC card.

Other versions of this model
The server accepts 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB DDR4 modules up to 2400MT/s, with actual speed depending on the installed Xeon E5-2630 v3 processor.
Yes, the 12 hot-plug bays support both SAS and SATA 3.5-inch drives, so current SATA drives will work alongside the three installed 2TB SAS drives.
Check the controller BIOS or iDRAC8 interface; it will report the negotiated link speed for each attached drive, showing 12Gbps when the SAS drives are running at full rate.
