2U rack server with 12 drive bays

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits a standard 2U rack space and provides twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays for SAS or SATA drives. A single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 processor with ten cores running at 2.3 GHz delivers 20 threads through hyper-threading. The system ships with 48 GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to the platform maximum.

H730 RAID controller and three enterprise drives

A Dell PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache and 12 Gbps SAS connectivity manages storage, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Three Dell 1 TB 7.2 K RPM enterprise SATA drives are included, installed in trays and ready for immediate array creation. The DVD-ROM drive adds basic optical media support for installation or recovery tasks.

Redundant power and remote management

Dual 750 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy to keep the server running if one unit fails. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller offers out-of-band remote management for monitoring, deployment and firmware updates without an operating system. Four onboard 1 GbE ports handle network traffic, while up to six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot allow additional connectivity or acceleration cards.

Questions about this item

When will the 7.2K RPM SATA drives need replacement in a RAID array?

The three installed 1 TB 7.2K RPM SATA drives are hot-plug enterprise units; replace any that report SMART errors or fail RAID rebuilds on the H730 controller.

What thermal limit appears first when both 750 W power supplies run continuously?

Dual redundant 750 W supplies share load; the chassis thermal design and iDRAC8 monitoring will throttle the Xeon E5-2650 v3 before power capacity is exceeded.

How loud are the fans when the 2U server runs 24/7 in a rack?

Redundant cooling fans in the 2U chassis ramp speed based on inlet temperature; iDRAC8 logs show acoustic levels typical for dense rack servers under sustained load.
