A 2U rack server with dual Xeon processors, 16 GB DDR4 memory and three 4 TB SAS drives in 12 hot-plug bays
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2630v3 eight-core processors running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots and three 4 TB 7.2K SAS drives. The system targets organisations needing dense 3.5-inch storage in a compact rack footprint.
Confirm your rack can accommodate a 2U unit measuring 26.8 inches deep and 17.44 inches wide. The server requires two 750 W redundant hot-swap power supplies, so ensure compatible PDU outlets are available. Memory runs at up to 2400 MT/s depending on the processor; plan upgrades using DDR4 modules only, as other generations will not fit.
Twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays allow drive changes without downtime, while dual 750 W supplies keep the system running if one fails. The PERC H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 for flexible data protection. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band monitoring and firmware updates over the network.

Other versions of this model
The server includes two Xeon E5-2630v3 CPUs, 16GB DDR4 memory, three 4TB 7.2K SAS drives with trays, H330 RAID controller, dual 750W redundant power supplies and a DVD drive. Operating system, additional drives, memory modules, PCIe cards and upgraded iDRAC licences are not included.
The system ships with 16GB installed across 24 slots supporting DDR4 up to 2400MT/s. You can expand using 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB modules up to the processor limit of 1536GB total. Match module sizes per processor for best performance.
The H330 provides 12Gbps SAS connectivity to the 12 hot-plug bays with hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50, 60. Real-world throughput depends on the three installed 4TB 6Gbps drives, RAID level chosen and the PCIe 3.0 link to the C610 chipset.
