A 2U rack server with a 14-core Intel Gold 6132, 64 GB DDR4, two 7.68 TB SAS SSDs on an H730P controller, dual 10 Gb and dual 1 Gb Ethernet, iDRAC9 Enterprise and redundant 1100 W power
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around one Intel Gold 6132 processor with 14 cores running at 2.6GHz. It ships with 64GB of DDR4 memory across four 16GB modules and two 7.68TB SAS SSDs managed by an H730P RAID controller. This configuration targets organisations that need a tested, firmware-updated platform for virtualisation or database workloads without waiting for a custom build.
The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays, so six additional bays remain open for future storage expansion. Network connectivity comes from an Intel X550 NDC delivering two 10Gb RJ45 ports and two 1Gb RJ45 ports, while up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots support extra controllers or accelerators. Redundant 1100W power supplies and included rack rails simplify installation in standard cabinets, and iDRAC9 Enterprise gives full remote management without a separate licence.
A front bezel without LCD, rack rails and power cords are supplied in the box so the server can be racked and powered immediately. The H730P controller enables hardware RAID across the installed SSDs and any drives added later. With no optical drive fitted, the front panel stays clear for maximum drive density, and the pre-installed firmware updates reduce first-boot configuration time.

The server provides up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots, so each slot is capped at Gen 3 speeds.
The 2U chassis mounts in a standard four-post rack using the included rails; exact depth clearance depends on the rack.
The H730P is pre-installed in a dedicated internal slot; the step often missed is connecting its super-capacitor module for cache protection.
