2U rack server with dual 14-core Gold 6132 CPUs, 512GB DDR4, dual 960GB SATA SSDs on H730P RAID and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for compute-intensive workloads. It targets organisations that need dense virtualisation, database processing or high-performance computing in a standard rack footprint.
Two 960GB SATA SSDs provide fast boot and application storage while the H730P RAID controller adds hardware RAID levels and cache protection. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays leave six empty slots for future capacity expansion without adding external enclosures.
Eight PCIe Gen 3 slots support additional network, storage or accelerator cards but restrict bandwidth to Gen 3 speeds. The Intel X550 NDC delivers two 10Gb RJ45 and two 1Gb RJ45 ports, capping onboard networking at 10Gb Ethernet without extra adapters.

| Management controller | iDRAC9 Enterprise |
The 960GB SATA SSDs have no published endurance rating; monitor SMART wear indicators via iDRAC9 Enterprise and replace when the media-wear metric approaches its threshold.
The 1100W redundant power supplies set the sustained ceiling; if combined CPU, memory and drive draw exceeds 1100W the system will throttle or shut down.
Dell does not publish acoustic or thermal figures for this configuration; the 2U chassis uses variable-speed fans controlled by iDRAC9 to match the 1100W PSU capacity.
