A 2U rack server with dual 10-core Intel Silver 4210R CPUs at 2.4GHz, 256GB DDR4, four 960GB SAS SSDs on an H730P controller, dual 10GbE networking and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Silver 4210R processors, each delivering 10 cores at 2.4GHz. It ships with 256GB of DDR4 memory arranged as 16 modules of 16GB PC4-2666 and four 960GB SAS SSDs managed by an H730P RAID controller. Remote management is handled by iDRAC9 Enterprise and networking uses an Intel X550 adapter providing two 10Gb RJ45 and two 1Gb RJ45 ports. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch drive bays and up to eight PCIe Gen 3 expansion slots.
This server suits virtualization hosts that need many cores and a large memory footprint in a compact 2U form factor. Buyers who need more than eight 2.5-inch drive bays or who require an optical drive should look elsewhere. Workloads demanding GPU acceleration or PCIe Gen 4 bandwidth will not be served by this platform. The fixed 1100W redundant power supply also limits deployment to racks with compatible power distribution.
The H730P RAID controller manages the four installed 960GB SAS SSDs and any additional drives added to the remaining bays. This controller determines which RAID levels are available and how many drives can participate in each array. Buyers planning storage layouts that exceed the controller's supported configurations should verify compatibility before purchase.

The server provides up to 8 PCIe Gen 3 slots, so cards that conform to that generation will install and operate normally.
Use the iDRAC9 Enterprise interface to check controller status, drive SMART data, and RAID virtual-disk state; all should report optimal with no errors.
Included are the 2U chassis with 8x 2.5" bays, bezel without LCD, sliding rails, and power cords; additional drive caddies for the four empty bays are not included.
