A 2U rack server with dual 10-core 2.4 GHz CPUs, 512 GB DDR4 memory, eight 960 GB SATA SSDs and an H730P RAID controller
The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Silver 4210R processors, each delivering ten cores at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 memory arranged as sixteen 32 GB modules running at 2666 MT/s. The system targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and compute clusters that need dense core counts in a standard rack footprint. Buyers who require GPU acceleration or single-thread frequencies above 3 GHz will need a different configuration.
The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays populated with 960 GB SATA SSDs behind a PERC H730P hardware RAID controller. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots are available for additional network or storage adapters. The integrated Intel X550 network daughter card supplies two 10 Gb RJ45 and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports for flexible LAN segmentation. No optical drive is included, and builders who need more than eight internal drives must attach external enclosures.
Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies share the load, keeping the server running if one unit fails. The iDRAC9 Enterprise module gives full out-of-band remote management including virtual console and power control. In typical operation the cooling fans maintain stable inlet temperatures while acoustic output remains within data-centre norms. Customers who need single-cord power or a smaller power envelope should evaluate alternative platforms.

The chassis includes eight 2.5-inch drive bays, all populated with 960GB SATA SSDs connected to the H730P controller.
The server occupies 2U of rack height and ships with sliding rails and a bezel for tool-less mounting on standard square-hole or threaded posts.
Populate each processor's eight DIMM slots identically — fill all slots per CPU to reach 512GB total and enable full memory-channel bandwidth.
