2U rack server with dual 8-core Xeon Gold 6134 CPUs, 768GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730P RAID controller, two 800GB SATA SSDs, quad-port 1GbE/10GbE networking, iDRAC9 Enterprise, redundant 750W PSUs.
The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for compute-intensive workloads. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors each run eight cores at 3.2 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and high-performance applications that demand dual-socket density in a compact form factor.
Memory is populated across all 24 slots with 32 GB DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC modules, reaching the installed 768 GB capacity. The PERC H730P controller manages the two 800 GB SATA SSDs and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with its 2 GB cache. Memory headroom extends to 3 TB when larger modules are fitted, while the eight 2.5-inch bays allow further storage expansion.
The dual LGA 3647 sockets limit the server to a maximum of two processors, so no further CPU scaling is possible within this chassis. Storage throughput is bound by the 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA interface on the H730P controller, and networking uses a quad-port daughter card providing two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections. Remote management is handled by iDRAC 9 Enterprise.

Other versions of this model
Yes, the server runs 768GB across 24 slots of DDR4 2666MHz registered ECC, so matching modules will operate at the same speed and rank configuration.
Use iDRAC9 Enterprise to view the controller battery status, RAID virtual-disk state, and each SSD's SMART health; the LCD front panel also shows a green system-health LED when all components report OK.
The box includes the 2U chassis with bezel, sliding Ready Rails, two 750W platinum PSUs, the X520/I350 quad-port network daughter card, and the installed CPUs, memory, controller and SSDs — only additional drives or GPU cards need separate purchase.
