A 2U rack server with dual 16-core Xeon Gold 6142 CPUs, 768GB DDR4, eight 600GB SAS drives and PERC H730P RAID
The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors at 2.6 GHz, each providing 16 cores. It ships with 768 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots and eight 600 GB 10K SAS drives on a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies, iDRAC9 Enterprise, quad-port networking and rails are included.
This configuration fits workloads that demand high core counts and large memory capacity in a 2U form factor, such as virtualisation clusters, database nodes or HPC head nodes. The eight 2.5-inch bays and SAS controller support RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Buyers who need more than eight drive bays or require a different drive interface should consider other platforms. Systems without redundant power or remote management are not addressed by this unit.
The installed memory totals 768 GB using 24 modules of 32 GB DDR4-2666 registered ECC. The platform maximum is 3 TB, so further expansion requires replacing modules. Confirm that your workload fits within 768 GB or plan for a memory upgrade before deployment.
