2U rack server with dual 16-core Xeon Gold 6142 CPUs at 2.6 GHz, 512 GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730P RAID controller and eight 400 GB SATA SSDs
This Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors running at 2.6 GHz with 16 cores each. It includes 512 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 modules and a Dell PERC H730P storage controller with 2 GB cache. Eight 400 GB SATA SSDs populate the 2.5-inch drive bays.
The dual 16-core CPUs and large memory capacity suit virtualisation hosts, database servers and compute-intensive applications. The H730P controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Enterprise remote management are included. Buyers who need more than 24 DIMM slots, a different drive interface or a higher core count per socket should evaluate other platforms.
The system ships with 512 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory using 16 of the 24 available slots. This leaves eight slots free for expansion up to the 3 TB maximum. The memory type and speed are fixed by the platform; confirm compatibility before adding modules.
