Dual-socket Xeon Gold 6148 server

This new Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two 20-core Xeon Gold 6148 processors running at 2.4 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across 16 modules and a PERC H730P 2 GB controller driving eight 1.2 TB 10K SAS drives. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Enterprise management are included.

Compute-dense virtualization and database workloads

The 40 total cores and half-terabyte of memory suit heavy virtualization, in-memory databases and multi-threaded enterprise applications. Quad-port networking with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports handles demanding east-west traffic. Buyers who need more than 24 DIMM slots, more than two sockets or GPU accelerator support should evaluate larger platforms.
