Dell PowerEdge R740 2U Server

The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for small businesses and enterprise environments. It ships new with a rail kit and runs Windows Server 2022 Standard. Dual Xeon Gold 6148 processors and 512GB of DDR4 memory provide the compute foundation for virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads.

Suits virtualization and dense storage.

This configuration suits teams running dense software-defined storage, traditional applications or virtualized infrastructure that benefit from redundant power and remote management. Buyers who need GPU acceleration for AI training or rendering should look elsewhere, as the specification lists no graphics adapters or GPU-ready slots.

Dual Xeon Gold 6148 20-core 2.40 GHz CPUs

The pair of Xeon Gold 6148 processors delivers 40 cores total at 2.40 GHz base frequency with turbo up to 3.70 GHz. This core count and clock speed are the primary factor in deciding whether the server can handle the intended virtualization density and compute throughput.
