DELL

DELL PowerEdge R740 2U rack server Dual Xeon 6148 2.40 GHz 512GB 61.44TB

SKU CH-VZ7E-9YQNN

A 2U rack server with dual 20-core Xeon Gold 6148 CPUs, 512GB DDR4 memory and 61.44TB of enterprise SSD storage on a PERC H730 RAID controller

  • Dual Xeon Gold 6148 CPUs deliver 40 cores at 2.40 GHz base with 3.70 GHz turbo for heavy compute
  • 512 GB DDR4 3200 MHz memory across 16 modules supports large virtualisation and in-memory workloads
  • 44 TB enterprise SSD storage in eight 7.68 TB drives provides ultra-fast capacity for dense data sets
  • PERC H730 RAID controller with 2 GB NV cache protects data and accelerates storage I/O
  • Redundant hot-swap power supplies and iDRAC9 remote management keep critical services running during maintenance

Dense Virtualisation Platform

The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for organisations that run dense virtualisation, software-defined storage or high-performance computing workloads. Dual Xeon Gold 6148 processors deliver 40 cores at 2.40 GHz with turbo up to 3.70 GHz, while 512 GB of DDR4 memory provides headroom for large VM counts.

Sustained Enterprise Operation

Redundant hot-swappable power supplies keep critical applications running during a module swap, and the PERC H730 RAID controller with 2 GB non-volatile cache protects write performance under continuous load. Eight 7.68 TB enterprise SSDs supply 61.44 TB of flash capacity designed for steady-state endurance rather than burst speed.

Scale-Up Replacement

This system replaces smaller 1U or tower servers when core density, memory capacity or storage volume become the limiting factor. The jump is worthwhile when workloads exceed the CPU core count, memory slots or drive bays of a previous platform and require the 2U form factor to accommodate them.
