2U rack server with a 20-core Intel Gold 6148 processor, 32GB DDR4 memory and dual 960GB SAS SSDs on an H730P controller
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack-mount server system built for compute-intensive workloads. It ships with a single Intel Gold 6148 processor delivering 20 cores at 2.4 GHz and 32 GB of DDR4 memory configured as two 16 GB modules running at 2666 MT/s. The platform includes an H730P RAID controller and two 960 GB SAS SSDs installed in an 8-bay 2.5-inch chassis with redundant 1100 W power supplies. Remote management is handled by iDRAC9 Enterprise.
This server suits organisations deploying virtualisation, database or high-performance computing tasks that benefit from high core count and hardware RAID. The single-socket configuration and eight drive bays limit immediate expansion for buyers who need dual-processor performance, larger memory capacity from day one or more than eight 2.5-inch drives without adding enclosures. Workloads requiring an internal optical drive will also need an external solution.
The installed processor is a 20-core Intel Gold 6148 running at 2.4 GHz with 27.5 MB cache, which sets the performance ceiling for the entire system. Memory currently occupies two slots at 32 GB total, and the chassis provides eight 2.5-inch bays with two populated by SAS SSDs. PCIe Gen 3 slots and the Intel X550 network daughter card offer 10 Gb and 1 Gb Ethernet connectivity for I/O scaling.

The installed CPU provides 20 cores at 2.4 GHz with 27.5 MB cache, and only one socket is populated, leaving the second socket empty for a future upgrade if more throughput is needed.
Dual 1100 W redundant supplies share the load, keeping each unit cooler and quieter than a single supply would be under the same sustained draw.
The shipment includes sliding rails, a front bezel without LCD, and the required power cords, so no extra rack hardware is needed.
