2U rack server with dual 14-core Intel Gold 6132 CPUs, 256 GB DDR4, six 1.2 TB SAS drives and H730P RAID controller
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack system equipped with two 2.6 GHz Gold 6132 processors and 256 GB of DDR4 memory across sixteen modules. It targets virtualisation hosts, database clusters and compute-heavy workloads that demand high core counts and large memory capacity in a standard rack footprint.
Dual hot-plug 1100 W power supplies share load and maintain uptime during a unit failure. The iDRAC9 Enterprise controller provides out-of-band monitoring, remote console access and automated alerts so administrators can track thermals and power draw without visiting the rack.
The array delivers fast sequential throughput for transactional databases and mixed read-write workloads. Two 2.5-inch bays remain open for capacity expansion or SSD caching. Organisations moving from smaller 2U platforms or older 10K SAS fleets gain immediate density and controller headroom.
Measured against everything we stock in Rack & Tower Servers, at today’s prices. Recalculated every night.

Insert each 1.2TB drive into the front 2.5-inch bays until the latch clicks, then use the H730P configuration utility to create the virtual disk before the OS installer runs.
The H730P cache module uses a battery-backed or flash-backed cache that must be replaced when iDRAC9 reports a health alert; the 10K SAS drives should be monitored via SMART and swapped if reallocated sectors appear.
The 1100W redundant power supplies set the thermal and power ceiling; prolonged full-load on both 14-core CPUs can trigger throttling before the 256GB DDR4 memory bandwidth is saturated.
