Dual Silver 4210R 2U Server
This Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Silver 4210R processors, each delivering ten cores at 2.4GHz. It ships with 32GB of DDR4 memory configured as two 16GB modules running at 2666 MT/s. The system targets organisations that need a dense, dual-socket platform for virtualisation, database or general-purpose workloads in a standard rack footprint.
8-Bay Chassis With H730P RAID
The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays and includes a PERC H730P hardware RAID controller. Two 1.2TB 10K SAS drives are installed, offering immediate redundant storage. Network connectivity comes from an Intel X550 NDC with two 10Gb RJ45 and two 1Gb RJ45 ports. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots are available for additional I/O, and an 1100W redundant power supply supports continuous operation.
iDRAC9 Enterprise Remote Management
Integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise enables full out-of-band control, monitoring and firmware updates without an operating system. The server includes rails, bezel and power cords for immediate rack deployment. Organisations requiring more than 32GB of memory, additional SAS capacity or GPU-accelerated compute would need to populate the empty DIMM slots, drive bays or PCIe slots accordingly.

Questions about this item
What PCIe generation do the eight expansion slots support, and what bandwidth does that cap in practice?
The eight slots run at PCIe Gen 3, so each x16 lane tops out at roughly 16 GB/s per direction.
What physical space does the chassis need in a rack, and how many 2.5-inch drive bays are available?
It occupies 2U of rack height and provides eight 2.5-inch SFF bays, two of which are already filled.
How is the H730P RAID controller installed, and which step is commonly missed?
The H730P slots into the dedicated internal RAID bay; the step often missed is connecting the super-capacitor backup module before closing the chassis.
