Eight 3.5-inch drive bays, dual Xeon Silver 4108 CPUs at 1.8 GHz, 384 GB DDR4 ECC memory and a PERC H730P RAID controller
The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads that need high core counts and large memory capacity. It ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4108 processors running at 1.8GHz and 384GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The 8LFF chassis accepts up to eight 3.5-inch SATA drives for local storage arrays. Remote management is handled by iDRAC9 with an Enterprise licence.
Dual 750W power supplies feed the system so both CPUs and the full memory complement can run continuously without throttling. The PERC H730P RAID controller manages drive arrays with hardware acceleration, keeping latency steady during long backup or database jobs. Integrated graphics and a 10GbE 562T two-port adapter handle console and network traffic without adding heat. Firmware is updated to the latest stable release before dispatch.
The unit measures 36 by 24 by 10 inches and weighs 40 pounds, so two people or a lift are recommended when sliding it into a cabinet. Rail kits are available on request and are not included by default. Drives are not installed; the eight 3.5-inch bays accept SATA disks that must be sourced separately. Memory slots are fully populated at 384GB, leaving no room for further expansion without removing existing modules.

The server includes two 750 W power supplies; actual draw depends on workload and installed drives.
The chassis accepts eight 3.5" SATA drives; Dell 3.5" caddies and a compatible rail kit are needed.
The PERC H730P supports SATA drives, so existing 3.5" SATA disks can be used in the eight bays.
