Dual-socket Xeon Silver 4110 server

The PowerEdge R740 ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4110 processors running at 2.1GHz. Each CPU provides eight cores and 11MB cache for sixteen total threads. The platform is built for virtualisation hosts, database nodes or compute clusters that need licensed iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management out of the box.

PERC H730P RAID controller and 10GbE adapter

A Dell PERC H730P hardware RAID controller manages up to eight 3.5-inch SATA drive bays. An onboard 562T dual-port 10Gb Ethernet adapter delivers high-throughput networking without consuming a PCIe slot. Dual 750W power supplies and an optional rail kit complete the infrastructure-ready package.

768GB DDR4 ECC memory with 3TB ceiling

The system arrives with 768GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across the available DIMM slots. The architecture supports a maximum of 3TB, leaving headroom for future expansion. Integrated graphics handle console output only, so GPU-accelerated workloads require a separate accelerator card.

Questions about this item

How often will the two 750 W power supplies need replacement under continuous operation?

The unit ships with dual 750 W supplies; typical server PSUs last several years, and the redundant pair lets you swap one without downtime.

Which component hits its thermal ceiling first when both Xeon Silver 4110 CPUs run at 2.1 GHz all day?

The two 8-core Xeon Silver 4110 processors are the primary heat sources; the chassis airflow is designed to keep them within limits under sustained load.

What noise level should I expect from the rack chassis with eight 3.5-inch drive bays populated and fans at full speed?

With eight 3.5-inch bays filled and dual 750 W supplies active, fan noise rises to a noticeable data-centre hum but remains within normal rack specifications.
