A 12-bay 3.5-inch rack server with dual 18-core Xeon Gold 6140 CPUs at 2.3GHz and 384GB DDR4 ECC memory, plus a PERC H730P RAID controller and 10GbE networking
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6140 processors running at 2.3GHz. Each CPU provides 18 cores and 24.75MB cache, giving 36 cores total for multi-threaded workloads. It targets datacentres that need dense compute and local storage in a single chassis. The system ships with 384GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed.
The chassis supports up to 12 large-form-factor drives using a SATA interface and the Dell PERC H730P RAID controller. No drives are installed, so capacity scales from zero to the full bay count depending on the disks you add. Memory headroom reaches 3TB across the available slots, allowing significant RAM expansion beyond the factory 384GB. The integrated graphics and 10GbE 562T adapter handle basic display and network needs without extra cards.
This configuration replaces 1U or 8-bay servers when a workload outgrows their drive slots or core count. The jump is worth it when you need 12 bays, dual-socket performance and 10GbE in one 2U box. Buyers who only need a few drives or a single processor will find the extra bays and second CPU unused. Remote management uses iDRAC9 Enterprise for out-of-band control.

Yes. The server has a 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis, a PERC H730P RAID controller and SATA backplane, so your current SATA drives will install directly and be managed by the controller.
Open the iDRAC web interface — the dashboard shows the Enterprise licence status — and check the network adapter page; both 562T 10 GbE ports should report link up.
The unit ships with two Xeon Gold 6140 processors, 384 GB DDR4 ECC RDIMMs, PERC H730P controller, dual 1100 W power supplies, integrated graphics and the 562T dual-port 10 GbE adapter; drives and rail kit are not included.
