A 24-bay 2.5-inch rack server with dual Xeon Gold 6134 CPUs at 3.2GHz, 768GB DDR4 memory and a PERC H730P controller, drives not included
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack-mount server system built for dense storage workloads. It ships with two Xeon Gold 6134 processors running at 3.2GHz and 768GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. A PERC H730P RAID controller and a 10GbE 562T dual-port adapter are installed. No drives are included.
This configuration fits buyers who want maximum 2.5-inch drive density in a 2U form factor with dual-socket compute and high memory capacity. It is not for environments that require 3.5-inch drive support or more than two processors. Workloads needing discrete GPU acceleration or fibre-channel connectivity should look elsewhere.
The 24 small-form-factor bays set the storage ceiling for this unit. With no drives installed, total capacity depends entirely on the SATA drives you add. The PERC H730P controller manages the array, and the chassis cannot accept 3.5-inch drives or exceed the 24-bay limit.

Slide each 2.5" drive into the front bays until the latch clicks, then configure the virtual disks in the PERC H730P BIOS before the OS installer runs; skipping the RAID setup leaves the drives invisible to the installer.
The two 1100W power supplies and the system fans are the primary field-replaceable units; the PERC H730P controller battery also degrades after several years and should be swapped to preserve write-back cache.
The 3.2GHz base frequency is maintained until the 1100W power budget or chassis airflow limit is reached, at which point the processors throttle to stay within the 24-bay thermal envelope.
